As we know the atom includes a dense nucleus comprising of positively charged protons, uncharged neutrons, surrounded by negatively charged electrons. Only when an atom takes an electron from another atom does the particle become charged.

 Electrons are located in 'energy levels', previously described as shells, however the word shell suggests a fixed position which is far from reality. At this stage in cellular chemistry scientists are aware of 7 energy levels, only four are actually used for the known elements, and within each of the principle energy levels is one or more sublevels.
